Slow Art This April at the UNMAM

This April, the UNMAM will be celebrating spring with a focus on slowing down and enjoying the present moment. As finals loom closer and the semester draws to a close, it’s easy to get sucked into a never-ending spiral of busyness and anxiety. Inspired by Slow Art Day, which will take place around the world on this coming Saturday, April 6, the UNMAM will be offering opportunities all month long to slow down and really look at the world around you.

This quote by Georgia O’Keeffe perfectly sums up the rarity of slow observation and the relational nature of presence. To see something for what it truly is, we have to step outside the stream of daily activity and mental chatter. When our days are filled with seemingly endless obligations, it requires an almost radical mental realignment to prioritize open-ended stillness over the drive towards productivity and action. Art can inspire and facilitate this kind of quiet, intimate observation, and almost any artwork benefits from slow, focused looking. We hope you will join us this month in taking a moment to slow down and truly see the amazing world around us.
