Not for exhibitions. Exhibitions programming will resume in Fall of 2026. The public may still request access to the Beaumont Newhall Study Room, which will offer adjusted hours to accommodate Collections Year.
The Beaumont Newhall Study Room will remain open (by appointment). Please email Angel Jiang, Curator of Collections & Study Room Initiatives, to schedule a visit. Please try to submit your request at least two weeks in advance — we may not be able to accommodate shorter notice.
Collections Year gives us the time and space to make improvements to the collection, which is a necessary aspect of museum operations.
The physical aspect of Collections Year involves moving artwork, creating dedicated work areas within the galleries, and performing a wide range of collections management procedures. We’ll be doing extensive condition reporting, photographing, cataloging, accessioning and storing of artworks.
During the past year, UNMAM has acquired nearly 200 objects, most of which are works on paper or photographs. All of them need to be cataloged, accessioned and properly housed, and our art storage is currently at capacity.
Collections Year also includes a digital component. We’ll be doing data transfer and upgrading our database to greatly improve efficiency and better support the Beaumont Newhall Print Study Room, our internal operations and public access to the collection online. Once this initiative is complete, anyone using the UNMAM website will be able to see and search UNMAM collections.

UNMAM’s permanent collection has largely been built through the generosity of donors who have given their treasured artworks to the museum to be enjoyed by students and museum visitors for lifetimes to come. The current staff continues to nurture relationships with donors and build the collection in this rewarding way.
The donation process, from initial contact with UNMAM staff to final approval and delivery, can take a few months or several years depending on the size and scope of the gift. Since Collections Year demands the time and attention of all staff – including the curators who research and assess donations and the collections manager who oversees formal paperwork and shipping – approval of donations may not be possible beginning June 2025.
If you would like to donate museum quality artworks in excellent condition to UNMAM, we encourage you to contact curator Mary Statzer at mstatzer@unm.edu. She can guide you through the process and advise on the timeline for donations during Collections Year.
