The UNM Art Museum is pleased to acknowledge Goldleaf Framemakers of Santa Fe as the exhibition sponsor for Abundance: New Acquisitions from 2016 to 2026.

Led by President David Horowitz, a UNM graduate, Goldleaf is recognized nationally for exceptional craftsmanship, including hand-carved, historically accurate gilded frames. The company offers  museum-quality framing and conservation, serving clients worldwide, including the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art, and UNMAM.

Trained in Renaissance gilding techniques since childhood, Horowitz earned a UNM theatre degree with a focus on design for performance. He brings that design experience to Goldleaf, from planning a frame “scene” for a painting to identifying period-appropriate frame designs.

He also gives back to UNM and UNMAM. “David and Goldleaf Framemakers have saved UNMAM and UNM tens of thousands of dollars through deeply discounted services, while ensuring that students and visitors study artworks framed with exceptional quality and integrity,” says UNMAM Director Arif Khan.

Horowitz and the Goldleaf artisans create meticulously researched frames that become teaching tools, shaping how people experience and understand artwork. The team brings the same care to conservation, paying close attention to the artist’s intent.

“David’s commitment to craftsmanship, education and the preservation of art makes his continued support of UNMAM especially meaningful,” Khan said.

“We’re incredibly fortunate to work with such a skilled and generous artisan who’s also an alum, and who gives back in ways that truly make a difference. We couldn’t be more pleased to have Goldleaf as our exhibition sponsor.”
