Closer Episode 4

In our fourth episode of CLOSER, Curator of Collections and Study Room Initiatives, Angel Jiang, guides us through UNMAM’s current exhibition Cottonwood Tassels: Gustave Baumann’s Prints, Proofs, and Process.

This exhibition follows Baumann’s approach to printmaking by illustrating each part of his process: drawing, carving, and printing. Individual color proofs are displayed alongside their corresponding blocks. Trial proofs illuminate the sequence of blocks, ink, and composition. This exhibition showcases the labor, decision making, and skill required to create a Baumann print.

Cottonwood Tassels: Gustave Baumann’s Prints, Proofs, and Process will be open until March 9, 2024.
