SUMMARY:Mindful Looking with Justine Andrews
DESCRIPTION:Justine M. Andrews\, PhD\, leads a series of guided exercises designed to help participants slow down\, look closely\, and experience works of art in a whole new way. It’s fun\, easy and relaxing\, requiring nothing more than a pen or pencil and a sheet of paper.  \nThis program is ideal for anyone who loves art and museums and is looking for a different way to experience them.  Based on mindfulness meditation techniques\, Mindful Looking is perfect for those who are curious about meditation. It’s also ideal for experienced meditators looking for fresh ways to quiet the mind and be still.  \nMindful Looking focuses on works of art in UNMAM’s current exhibition\, Hindsight/Insight 3.0: Portraits\, Landscapes\, and Abstraction from the UNM Art Museum. This will be the final installment of an ongoing series this semester–join us December 8th for Mindful Looking!

SUMMARY:Opening Reception @ UNMAM
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we celebrate the opening of\nHindsight Insight 3.0: Portraits\, Landscapes\, and Abstraction from the UNM Art Museum.\nHindsight Insight 3.0 is the second version of the UNM Art Museum’s hybrid project space and exhibition devoted to complicating existing narratives about racism\, colonialism\, and gender stereotypes while de-centering curatorial authority and institutional voice. Created and curated by museum staff and UNM professors Amanda Curreri\, Kevin Mulhearn\, and Ray Hernández-Durán\, the exhibition features portraits\, landscapes\, and abstract artworks from the permanent collection that complement curricula of the University of New Mexico’s Department of Art and Art History during the Fall 2023 semester. These collaborations celebrate UNMAM’s role as a teaching museum that engages the broader campus community. \nWe invite you to join us in celebration of these creative partnerships on Friday\, September 8th\, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at UNMAM.
